Coronavirus: Lagos releases resumption dates for 2020/2021 school session

- The resumption date for the 2020 to 2021 school session for Lagos state has been released

- All schools are advised to adhere to the new calendar

In preparation for life after coronavirus, the Lagos state Ministry of Education has approved resumption dates for the 2020 to 2021 school session.

In the time table, both public and private schools will resume First Term academic activities on Monday, September 21, 2020.

The term is expected to run until December 18, 2020, while the second term will begin January 4, 2021 and run until April 16, 2021.

According to Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, the director, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) public and private schools in the state are expected to adhere strictly to the harmonised school calendar.

“It is not enough to reopen but to keep staying opened since some schools all over the world had to shut down after reopening due to a spike in the pandemic.
“All schools must make efforts to comply with these requirements, not just for the improvement of the overall school operations but for safe reopening for academic activities,” she said.

Going further, she also advised schools to have flexible teaching and learning plans.

She added that schools must strive to avoid any COVID-19 infection in their school.

She further advised that teachers, students and visitors must wear a face mask at all time.

Meanwhile, schools are asked to take the school self-risk assessment test to obtain reopening clearance for academic activities on the OEQA website: www.oeqalagos.com.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered the reopening of schools and also permitted churches and mosques in the state to resume full services.

According to the governor, mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches can also commence weekly services.

The governor said churches and mosques should resume their full services.

As regards our places of worship, we are now also permitting the mosques to resume their five times a day prayers; and in the case of churches, they are now also permitted to resume their mid-week services."

Legit.ng had also reported that Lagosians who were bent on going to public places without wearing face masks as directed by the state and the federal government would have to deal with the police henceforth.

The police command in the state through its commissioner, CP Hakeem Odumosu, on Tuesday, July 7, said that the force has the order of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to arrest all violators of COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
