The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its commitment towards capturing Lagos state following its victory in the Edo guber election which brought in Godwin Obaseki for another four-year term.
Recall that the opposition side cruised to a remarkable victory in the guber election held on Saturday, September 19, with Obaseki polling 307,955 and winning 13 out of the 18 local government areas in Edo state.
Legit.ng notes that among notable reasons, PDP sailed to victory all thanks to the revolutionary "EdonobeLagos" catchword used by the opposition members who claimed that returning back power to APC is like making Edo an annexe of Lagos state.
Speaking on Sunday, September 20, immediately after Obaseki was declared winner, Lagos PDP said the governor's victory has given a flash of hope that Lagos would be captured in due time.
Taofik Gani, the party’s state spokesperson, made this known in a congratulatory message to Obaseki upon his landslide victory.
“To us in PDP Lagos state, we have grasped from the well-deserved victory (of Godwin Obaseki), the renewed commitment, and resoluteness.
“Our effort is to also win Lagos State to end godfatherism and imposition in Lagos politics. As a matter of fact, we are now more than ever before, fired up to win Lagos state,” Gani said.
Meanwhile, Dino Melaye, a former senator representing Kogi West, has mocked the immediate past national chairman of APC following the ruling party's defeat in the just-concluded Edo governorship election.
The former lawmaker, in his usual humour-filled social media banter, said Oshiomhole has been sent into political oblivion, describing the former Edo governor as "Oso pikin" ― a contrast of his popular pseudonym Oso baba.
Melaye in a video posted on his Twitter page made a subtle jibe at Oshiomhole and described the former APC chairman as pikin (child) ― meaning he has lost his relevance.
