After leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a remarkable victory in the Edo guber election, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state was accorded a rousing welcome back home by his kinsmen.
Wike, who arrived Port Harcourt with top members of PDP and cabinet members on Sunday, September 20, was given a heroic welcome by the waiting crowd.
The governor waved to the joyous teeming supporters who saluted his courageous leadership and political prowess which earned Governor Godwin Obaseki a landslide reelection victory against all odds.
Legit.ng notes that Wike is the chairman of the PDP national campaign committee for the Edo state gubernatorial election.
Obaseki finally scaled through the hurdle
It would be recalled that after months of intrigues and political theatrics, Governor Obaseki comfortably sailed to the shore of victory as he defeated All Progressives Congress (APC)'s Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The Edo governor was declared the winner of the anticipated poll by INEC having met all requirements by polling 307,955 and winning 13 out of the 18 local government areas in Edo state.
Prominent Nigerians including former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Dele Momodu, and former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan have described Obaseki's victory as a win for democracy and end to political godfatherism.
Prior to the election, Wike sent a crucial message to a teeming legion of the electorate in Edo, warning that voting APC into power would send the south-south state to the dark era of godfatherism.
Wike commends INEC and security operatives
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Wike gave his take on the conduct of the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just concluded Edo gubernatorial election.
Wike expressed satisfaction over the activities of the INEC and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) that led to a hitch-free poll.
