Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has declared his support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede in the coming Ondo state governorship election.
The governor who joined Jegede on the campaign train in Akure north area of the state disclosed this on his Facebook page.
Makinde said he joined Jegede on his way back from Edo state where he supported Governor Obaseki to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded governorship election in the state.
"On our way back home from Edo state, we stopped in Ondo state to join the campaign train of our great party, PDP’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede SAN at Ogbese Town, Akure north local government area," he wrote.
However, in reaction to his post, many Nigerians quickly took advantage to send a message to him.
Muhammed Sanni in his reply wrote:
"Mr Governor, Saki people are patiently waiting for the re-awarding of construction of Saki township road. I pray to almighty Allah for His continuous protection over you and your team in Oyo state."
Anah Chikaodiri wrote:
"Indeed you are a true Democrat, you start the liberation from your state by winning Apc hands down. Edo has join the league remaining Ondo state will surely be free from the evil party of APC. Well done people's governor."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that ahead of the Ondo governorship election, the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, called on his opponent, Jegede, to maintain peace during his campaign.
This warning from Akeredolu came after some vehicles reportedly belonging to the PDP's candidate were destroyed by thugs in the Akoko Southwest local government area of the state.
In a message sent through Olabode Olatunde, the spokesman of the Akeredolu/Ayedatiwa Campaign Organisation, the governor warned Jegede to caution his supporters in his next rally.
Legit.ng had also reported that concerns had been raised and allegations made that some thugs loyal to the APC in Ondo are beginning to strike terror in the minds of residents.
The claim was made by Segun Sowunmi, a spokesman for Atiku Abubakar during his presidential campaign in 2019.
Sowunmi in a statement made available to Legit.ng alleged that the thugs were working with the approval of the Ondo state government to taunt Jegede.
