Kaduna state is in mourning as the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris, died on Sunday, September 20, at the age of 84.
Premium Times reported that the emir's death was confirmed by the Kaduna state commissioner for home affairs and internal security, Samuel Aruwan.
Legit.ng gathers that the monarch spent 45 years on the throne having ascended to the throne in 1975 at the age of 36.
He died at an Army 44 Reference Hospital in Kaduna after a short admission, palace sources reportedly said.
In its own version, the Nation reported that the late monarch was the 18th Fulani Emir of Zazzau, adding that a traditional title holder, Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu, also confirmed the death.
According to Aminu, the late monarch had been battling with an undisclosed ailment for a decade “until this morning when death snatched him away.”
The late monarch left behind four wives, dozens of children and grand as well as great-grandchildren.
The burial of the first-class monarch is reportedly scheduled to hold by 5pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as well as other traditional rulers, has allegedly indicated an interest in attending the burial.
In another report, the Emir of Biu in Borno state, Mai Umar Mustapha Aliyu has died after a brief illness.
The traditional ruler of Biu was reported to have died on Monday night, September 14, at the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe state.
The death of the emir was confirmed by his family who described his demise as a huge loss.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a condolence message to the people of Borno state over the death of the Emir of Biu.
The president’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued through his media aide, Femi Adesina on Tuesday, September 15.
Buhari said the late monarch led the people of Biu with diligence and dedication for 31 years by demonstrating visionary leadership.
