Nigeria civil society situation room in its preliminary report on the just concluded Edo state governorship election

has revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) successfully distributed electoral materials to their various local governments as the materials arrived on time.

Meanwhile, it reported that there are delays in the opening of polls in some areas with late arrival of officials.

Also, in the situation room report, there are reported cases of malfunctioning card readers while in some cases, the failure to authenticate fingerprints.

Meanwhile, the group reported that there is widespread failure to adhere to coronavirus guidelines.

However, the situation room specifically commended the INEC officials over priority given people with disabilities.

It also reported the presence of security in most of the polling units.

Situation room however condemned the invasion of Governor Wike's hotel room yesterday, September 18.

It also revealed that there were widespread of vote buying on the part of the politicians.

Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng reported that INEC sent a crucial message to its staff.

In a statement on Friday, September 18, signed by the commission's chairman Mahmood Yakubu, INEC expressed hope that its staff "will rise to occasion" and give a level ground to all the political parties and candidates partaking in the guber poll.

Yakubu, who emphasised that all eyes are on INEC, charged the commission' staff to make sacrifices in carrying out their duties.

He further added that INEC will "continue to improve the welfare and conditions of service of staff within the available resources."
