Edo election: APC calls INEC, police's attention to malpractice in Akoko unit

- APC has decried alleged electoral malpractices in the ongoing Edo guber election

The Edo state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has called the attention of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to the alleged malpractice in Akoko Edo.

In a tweet by the Edo APC on Saturday afternoon, September 19, the state opposition party alleged that its agent in Akoko Edo Ward 6 Unit 14 has been driven away by the agent of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It further claimed that it is "PDP people" voting in the unit, describing the development as an attempt to rig out Pastor Ize-Iyamu who is the party's flagbearer.

"In Akoko Edo Ward 6 Unit 14, PDP agents drove our agent away from the voting point & it's only PDP people who are voting currently with no security personnel on the ground," Edo APC claimed.

The warning note was issued barely two hours after PDP alleged that card readers were not working in areas considered to be Governor Obaseki's stronghold in the ongoing governorship election in Edo state.

A statement issued on behalf of the party by Governor Obaseki's media aide, Crusoe Osagie, stated that "There is deliberate election manipulation in areas where the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki is popular.

Osagie said there is a coordinated attempt to disenfranchise voters who are his principal's loyalists in his strongholds.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Godwin Obasek finally voted during the ongoing governorship election in Edo state.

The governor, who donned white regalia, voted at Emokpae Model School, unit 19, ward 4 in Oredo local government area of Edo state alongside his wife Betsy Obaseki.

Governor Obaeki, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the PDP, is presently having a tough run with 13 other candidates including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of APC.
