Nyesom Wike has sent a crucial message to a teeming legion of the electorate in Edo, with the Rivers governor warning that voting All Progressives Congress (APC) into power will send the southsouth state to the dark era of godfatherism.
Edo guber election has been scheduled for Saturday, September 19, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the pre-election discussion raising a possible fear of violence.
Wike, who is the chairman of the PDP national campaign council for the Edo election, stated that all ropes must be let loose in order to win the election for Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Speaking at a meeting organised for leaders and elected representatives of the PDP in Benin, the Edo state capital, Wike maintained that the battle will not be easy.
He, however, expressed hope of victory, saying the lives of PDP chieftains and members are in danger should APC ride to power again after the September 19 election.
“The electoral battle may not be easy. But God is with us. With the people also on the ground, we will win.
“Let me tell you, God forbid that APC wins; if they do, all of you here would have failed because your political life will be in jeopardy.
“This is an opportunity for you to fight for the liberation of Edo State. You must all say enough is enough. One man should not be allowed to continue to insult Edo people.
"The godfather thinks what he says will always be. This is the time to stop him," the governor warned, adding that APC will use federal might.
Meanwhile, with less than twenty-four hours to the conduct of the Edo state governorship election, Umar Sani, a former special assistant on media and publicity to ex-Nigeria's vice president, Namadi Sambo, has predicted the outcome of the poll.
In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Sani said the candidate of the PDP, Godwin Obaseki, would be victorious at the poll if the federal might is not used to upturn the election in favour of the APC and its candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on Saturday, September 1.
