Derby County legend Reg Harrison has been reported dead at the age of 97.

Up until his death, the former attacker was the oldest living FA Cup winner having lifted the trophy in 1946.

Harrison, who last played for Long Eaton United in 1962 was said to have passed on around 9 pm on Thursday night - surrounded by his family members in the bungalow he lived in for 54 years.

He found the back of the net 59 times in 281 appearances in all competitions during his 11-year reign - between 1944 and 1955 at Derby County - the club he joined at the age of 16.

SunSport reports that the late winger served with the Royal Engineers in Northumberland during the Second World War.

The publication further revealed that his glorious day came when he inspired Stuart McMillan's men to a 4-1 win over Charlton at Wembley.

Harrison was never the first choice for the position but he was fortunate to be given a chance in the final after Sammy Crooks - a preferred choice suffered a terrible injury before the quarter-finals.

Shortly after drawing the curtain on his career, he had a short stint in football management before finally focusing on setting up centres for young people in his hometown.

Harrison was awarded Freedom of the City for services to the community by Derby City Council in February 2019.

The former football star married his wife, Win in March 1945 and enjoyed 73 years of marriage before she sadly died in 2018.

They had two children - son Michael and daughter Pat. Michael passed away at the age of seven from leukaemia meaning Harrison is survived by his daughter.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Inter Milan have taken to their official social media account to confirm the death of their legend Mario Corso who died at the age of 78 after a brief illness as tribute pours in for him.

In their message, Inter Milan described the deceased as someone they will surely miss considering the legacy he left behind before he died.

Verona-born Corso is known for having perfected the 'knuckleball' free-kick long before the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo became famous for them.
