Italian League giants, Juventus, have paid Gonzalo Higuain £17 million in compensation after terminating his contract with them.

The Argentine forward has now been linked with a move to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami in the coming days.

Higuain joined the Old Lady from Napoli for €90 million in 2016 and scored 66 goals and 16 assists in 149 appearances.

During his reign at the Allianz Stadium, he won five major titles including three Italian League trophies.

Juventus confirmed the development on their official website saying:

"There were many battles together, many goals scored, with many often decisive.

"Now, the paths of Gonzalo Higuain and Juventus go their separate ways. Pipita, after winning his third Scudetto, has officially taken off his Black and White shirt."

The 32-year-old's deal with the Turin club was expected to expire in the summer of 2021 but the new boss, Andrea Pirlo, informed the forward to leave as he is not part of his plans.

SunSport confirmed that the Serie A champions have compensated the attacker with the sum of £17m before showing him the exit doors.

The club's statement confirmed:

"Juventus Football Club announces the mutual termination of the contract with the player Gonzalo Gerardo Higuain.
"This operation generates a negative economic effect of approximately €18.3m on the 2019/20 financial year due to the residual value write-down of the registration rights of the player."

Meanwhile, the Argentine is already in America to finalise his move to David Beckham's Inter Miami.

Club coach, Diego Alonso, said:

"Gonzalo Higuain is finalising his negotiations with us and we hope to have an official announcement this week."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Andrea Pirlo is already taking decisive measures even though he is yet to manage an official game since becoming the Juventus boss with the latest reports that the contracts of Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira have been terminated.

It was gathered that this makes it three players that will be leaving the club in just about a week as Blaise Matuidi had earlier left to join David Beckham's Inter Miami in MLS.
