Nigeria will be celebrating its 60th independence anniversary on October 1, 2020, and the federal government has said the celebration will be observed for a year, ending on September 30, 2021.
This information was disclosed on Wednesday, September 16, while President Muhammadu Buhari announced the theme for the independence celebration at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, The Guardian reports.
According to the Nigerian leader, the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration is “Together Shall We Be.” He explained that the theme had been chosen to forge a more united and cohesive Nigeria.
He went on to note that as a result of the coronavirus pandemic the diamond jubilee anniversary celebration would be held low-key.
The president gave insight into the process guiding the anniversary celebration, adding that his administration would henceforth ensure inclusiveness.
He said: “Today we stand on the threshold of history as we formally begin a series of activities commemorating Nigeria’s Diamond Anniversary. The task history has saddled me with today is to proclaim a theme that will keep us united, help us forge ahead, and unveil a logo that will form the critical pillars, which are eleven months modest commemoration activities will rest on."
Recall that the federal government called on Nigerians to submit creative ideas in poetry, photography, logo design that can form the brand of the 60th Independence anniversary
The thematic and creative aspects of the event would be designed by Nigerians for Nigeria. The aim is to ensure inclusiveness. This was disclosed by Dr. Isa Pantami, the minister of communications and digital economy in a statement released on Friday, September 4.
The challenge is looking for talented, critical thinking and creative individuals or teams to produce the slogan, photograph, and a poem for Nigerians to mark this year's Independence Day celebration.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari unveiled the logo for the celebration of Nigeria's 60th independence.
The president unveiled the Nigeria at 60 emblem during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, September 16.
The weekly FEC meeting was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and some ministers.
