Sergio Reguilon could become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second signing this transfer window if Manchester United and Real Madrid agree terms on the transfer of the defender.
The Red Devils fans have been on the lookout for the arrival of another player after the signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a deal valued around €39 million.
Reports claim both United and Los Blancos have reached an advanced stage of their negotiations as the Premier League outfit willing to splash £23 million as reported by the Mirror.
However, the only reason the deal has not been put to bed is because Real wants to include a buy-back clause in the deal, which United are not comfortable with.
Coach Zinedine Zidane wants the deal to pull through, hence, he is ready to exclude the clause to ensure the transfer succeeds.
Marca claims United are in pole position to secure the services of the 23-year-old who was equally wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal earlier in the window.
He attracted a number of top European clubs to his attention following his impressive performances on loan at Sevilla.
The Spaniard has now been considered surplus to requirement as Zidane prefers both Marcelo and Ferland Mendy in the pecking order.
Jose Mourinho's Tottenham are said to be waiting to challenge the Red Devils for the defender, but Old Trafford is considered to be the ideal destination for him to further his career.
Reguilon was part of the Sevilla squad that was crowned Europa League champions following their victory over Antonio Conte's Inter Milan. He made 38 appearances in the process.
He was rewarded for his fine form with an international debut for Spain earlier this month.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea are edging closer to reaching a deal with Real Madrid for the transfer of their defender Sergio Reguilon this summer.
The Blues opted for the 23-year-old Spaniard as an alternative for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell who has been heavily linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge.
However, the Stamford Bridge outfit has been pushed back after the Foxes demanded £80 million before allowing their player to leave.
