Nineteen years after Chief Bola Ige (SAN)'s death, one of the sons of the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Muyiwa, has revealed the alleged reason why he was killed.
According to Sahara Reporters, Muyiwa said his father was killed as a result of jealousy.
Legit.ng gathered that the son of the illustrious legal luminary said this during the 90th posthumous birthday held in his honour.
Ige was murdered in his home on December 23, 2001. Nineteen years after, his killers are still unknown.
"My father really loved young people. He also believed in the emancipation of the common man and elevating young people. A lot of his peers didn’t like him for that because they could not understand the young people.
“But, that was the essence of Bola Ige, and it was part of the envy that ate into the souls of some of those who didn’t like him. Nonetheless, that was their problem. Bola Ige came to this world, did his bit, and his legacy lives on,” he said.
In 2016, the former inspector general of police Solomon Arase was accused by Muyiwa of stalling late Bola Ige's murder trial.
Muyiwa, who is the past commissioner of lands and physical development in Osun state, accused the former inspector general of police Solomon Arase of frustrating the investigation and murder trial of his father.
Speaking on a radio programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, Muyiwa said his family would not rest until those who killed his father face justice.
Also in 2019, Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of protecting and rewarding killers of Bola Ige.
Recall that Ige was assassinated while serving in Obasanjo's government.
According to Soyinka, Obasanjo's government refused the offer of assistance from the United States to bring the killers to justice.
