Vice-chairman of Oredo local government council, Mrs Belinda Ogiefa, stated at the rally: “Come out and vote; don’t be afraid of any form of violence. This roadshow is meant to educate the masses that Governor Godwin Obaseki is no longer in All Progressives Congress (APC), you should not be deceived.
“We are pleading with you to come out and vote; there will not be any violence as the security agencies are going to ensure the protection of lives and property.
“Security personnel will be fully on ground to take care of anyone trying to cause mayhem on that day. The PDP is fully ready and on ground.”
Also speaking, PDP zonal secretary in Unit 8 and 9, Lucky Edomen, promised to mobilise more voters to ensure the governor’s victory.
“His developmental strides and projects are there for everyone to see. The opposition has nothing to show; they have no record.
“Obaseki is very popular and will be reelected for a second term because of his performance. We want to let the people know that the governor is no longer in APC but PDP; they must not get it wrong on election day,” he said.
Governor Obaseki had earlier urged eligible voters in Edo state to come out en masse on Saturday, September 19 and vote for the PDP to enable him consolidate on his achievements in the first term and assuring residents in Edo state that the electioneering process will be violence-free.
Addressing party faithful during his reelection campaign rally in Urhonigbe wards 7 and 8, Orhionmwon local government area, Obaseki charged the electorate to turn out without fear of intimidation or harassment to vote and stay back to defend their votes.
Legit.ng previously reported that the PDP advised its millions of supporters to disregard underhand tactics being deployed by the APC to discourage them from coming out to vote on election day.
Special adviser to Edo state governor on media and communication strategy, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement issued on Monday, August 31, said: “The APC has been boasting that it already has in its kitty, the written results of the September 19 gubernatorial election, even before the election is conducted.
“This old tactic of the APC is meant to discourage voters who are very enthusiastic about coming out to vote for Governor Godwin Obaseki, come September 19.”
