Less than 72 hours after Olusegun Obasanjo slammed Muhammadu Buhari, over his handling of the nation's affairs, the former Nigerian leader has commended the incumbent president.
Obasanjo in reaction to the re-election of Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina as the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), praised the current Nigerian leader for the support given at ensuring the former minister of agriculture secured another term in office.
According to Channels TV, Obasanjo revealed this on Monday, September 14, when the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) leadership paid him a courtesy visit at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The former Nigerian leader went on to hail 14 former African presidents for joining him to recommended Adesina immediately he drew their attention to it. He added that the leaders deserved commendation for the roles they played.
“I must commend the Federal government for the support given to him to get this second term ticket. You know that the former President, Goodluck Jonathan recommended him before this new government came on board. The government could have rejected him. So, I must commend the President for supporting him all through, he said.
He also revealed that Adesina's sound educational background played an important role in the success he achieved apart from the support he received from African leaders.
Obasanjo while stressing on the importance of education further noted that without it Adesina would not have earned such an elevated position.
Adesina was re-elected by the bank's board of governors at the AfDB virtual 55th annual meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, August 27.
It was reported that Adesina, who was first elected as the 8th AfDB president back in 2015, is the first Nigerian to serve as head of the bank group.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the reason President Buhari supported the president of the AfDB in 2015, has been revealed.
The president said he gave his full support to Adesina because he saw him as a good man. Buhari revealed this on Thursday, September 10, while receiving the newly re-elected AfDB president at the State House, Abuja.
He added that he nominated and supported him for the second term because Adesina proved to be competent and a good Nigerian ambassador in his first term.
In a related development, former president, Goodluck Jonathan held a brief meeting with the president of the AFDB.
Jonathan disclosed on Thursday, September 10, that the president of AFDB paid him a visit.
Adesina served as Nigeria’s minister of agriculture and rural development under the Jonathan administration from 2010 – 2015, before he was elected president of AFDB.
