US rapper Nas turns 47 years old on this day, September 14. The talented musician is one of the industry greats and is responsible for what may the greatest diss track of all time, Ether. Legit.ng explores a few other interesting facts about the MC on his special day.

1. Early life
Nas was born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on September 14, 1973. His father is a jazz and blues musician from Mississippi and his mother, Fannie Ann, who passed away in 2002, was a US Postal Service worker from North Carolina.
2. Early career
As a teenager, Nas initially went by the nickname "Kid Wave" before adopting his more commonly known alias of "Nasty Nas".
3. The rise of Nas
In 1994, Nas's debut album, Illmatic, was released. It featured production by Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, LES and DJ Premier, as well as guest appearances from Nas's friend AZ and his father Olu Dara. Illmatic was awarded best album of 1994 by The Source.
4. Beef with Jay-Z
The highly-publicised dispute between Nas and Jay-Z became public in 2001. Jay-Z released a song which criticised Nas by calling him "fake". Nas responded with Ether, a track which is still considered one of the greatest diss songs of all time.
5. Beef with 2Pac
After 2Pac misinterpreted lines directed to the Notorious B.I.G. on Nas's 1996 album It Was Written, he took offence and attacked Nas on the track Against All Odds. Nas was brought to tears when he heard the diss because he idolised 2Pac. The pair later met in Central Park before the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards and ended their feud.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Nas has opened up about fellow rapper Jay-Z supposedly purposefully releasing music at the same time as him. The two US rappers have dropped a couple of projects on the same day for almost their entire rap careers.
Fans have come to know that when Nas drops a new song or album, Jigga will also drop on the same day or a day after. Nas was recently asked about Jay-Z's moves in a recent interview with The Breakfast Club.
He was asked if he thinks the Dirt Off Your Shoulder hitmaker drops projects on his albums' release dates on purpose.
