As the 2023 political climate in Nigerian begins to heighten, there have been speculations about the likely successors to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently serving a second and final term.

One of such speculations is that a sitting governor is being primed to take over from the president, but this claim is already generating negative reactions.

Senator Kabiru Marafa, who contested for the governorship of Zamfara state under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, is warning that such move would be counter-productive.

Marafa, a former senator, warned his party not to follow that path even though he did not reveal the identity of the sitting governor.

The politician linked the members of the Governors’ Forum to alleged plans to hijack the APC machinery for the purpose of installing the serving governor.

The Nation reports the former senator as saying: “There are good people in the committee who mean well for the party, and I advise them to wake up and do what they are asked to do and leave the politics of 2023.

“Nobody can bring the position of national chairman to the North now. The moves by some within the Governors’ Forum to hijack the party and install a serving governor and an expired one to succeed President Buhari will crash the way former Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s selfish agenda crashed totally.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that Marafa reacted to the comments of Zamfara former governor, Abdulaziz Yari, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is intact without any upheavals.

Yari had made the comment in response to reports that the APC National Working Committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe had plans to meet all the party's stakeholders in Zamfara over disagreements by key chieftains.
