- Ex-Ekiti governor, Fayose, and other PDP chieftains were conspicuously absent at the party's flag off campaign in Ondo state
- Reports indicate that the former governor and others allegedly stayed away because they were not carried along
- The southwest chapter of the PDP has been recently embroiled in a leadership crisis
The crisis in the southwest chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another turn on Saturday, September 12 as former Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose, and other chieftains shunned the party's flag off campaign in Akure, Ondo state.
The Nation reported that Fayose and others were absent because they were not carried along in the runnings of the campaign by which is being headed Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.
The Oyo state overnor was said to have single-handedly constituted the campaign council, placing Fayose as member of the Mobilisation Sub-Committee.
Apart from the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal and Makinde, other PDP governors stayed away from the campaign, The Nation stated.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Fayose warned Governor Makinde against tampering with the leadership structure in Ekiti state.
The former governor said he was ready to fight anyone who wants to take over the structure of the party in the state from him.
He stated this on Wednesday, September 9, when he led national delegates of the PDP including the chairmen of the party in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos to Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
Also on the PDP crisis, Senator Biodun Olujimi-led faction of the party in Ekiti state said it has adopted Governor Makinde as the party’s zonal leader.
The PDP leaders in the state also urged Makinde to ignore the alleged declaration as persona-non-grata in the state by Fayose.
Legit.ng gathered that they described the declaration as an empty threat, coming from somebody who is struggling for relevance.
Also, amid the internal crisis, Banji Okunomo, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the PDP, has resigned his membership of the party in what climaxed the political grievances that trailed the primary election in Ondo state.
Okunomo dumped the party on Monday, September 7, and pitched his tents with the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Okitipupa local government.
