The deputy director-general of the Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign council, Engineer Gideon Ikhine, has assured that with Governor Godwin Obaseki as the governorship candidate of the PDP, victory is certain for the party at the poll.
Ikhine, who spoke to journalists in Benin city on Thursday, September 10 said the ward-to-ward reelection campaign rally embarked upon by Obaseki, has further challenged the governor to do even more for Edo people.
He urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to ensure the governor’s victory, adding that Obaseki remains committed to projects that will attract more development into the state.
The PDP chieftain further stated that the party is well-rooted in the state, adding that Obaseki's move to the ruling party alongside his commissioners and other appointees of the Edo government is an added advantage to the party ahead of the poll.
He said the governor doesn’t reward mediocrity but excellence and hard work, stressing that, for you to become a commissioner under Obaseki, you must have won your units and wards."
Meanwhile, commercial activities were halted temporarily in the early hours of Wednesday, September 9 as butchers and traders in Edo shut down abattoirs, meat markets and shops in the state to show solidarity and rally support for the re-election bid of Governor Obaseki.
The elated traders, in spite of the heavy rainfall in the state capital, turned out in their numbers canvassing votes to ensure victory for the governor and his deputy and running mate, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
