The Daily Trust cartoonist, Mustapha Bulama, who did a piece of artwork on Aisha Buhari and her daughter's wedding, has explained his intention for the controversial work.

During an interview with BBC, Bulama pointed out that he had no bad motive and meant no insult to the First Lady and the president's daughter, Hanan.

Bulama said that stated that with the work, he was only trying to portray the current reality of the nation.

The embattled cartoonist maintained: “I mean no harm for the marriage of Hanan Buhari. I was only doing my work. In the cartoon, l was just trying to show the experience of Nigerians currently.”

The artist said that since the publication of the work, he has been backlashed vehemently by a section of politicians and praised by some other persons.

He noted: “This is the first time I will get reaction from such high place to my work. It shows that those in power actually see and listen to us. I hope we continue to inspire them to make life easier for the people.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a presidential aide has disclosed that Aisha Buhari was unhappy over a cartoon image of her daughter’s recent wedding.

The cartoon had depicted an image of the First Lady showing the invitation of her daughter’s wedding while Nigerians were drowning.

The spokesperson of the First Lady, Aliyu Abdullahi said that Aisha was displeased by the way she was portrayed in the cartoon.

He said the wedding between Hanan Buhari and Mohammed Sha’aban had nothing to do with the present hardship Nigerians are facing.

Abdullahi explained that the First Lady had taken measures to ensure that the wedding was simple; noting that she even told her aides not to make the wedding extravagant.
