Former Chelsea star Michael Essien has kicked off his coaching career after joining Danish side FC Nordsjaelland's backroom staff as part of the process to be fully licenced as a manager.
The 37-year-old Ghanaian football legend will serve as an assistant to Flemming Pedersen during the 2020-21 campaign.
Essien recently hanged his professional boot after representing Azerbaijani football club Sabail FK as a player-coach for one year where he made 14 appearances but failed to find the back of the net.
The former Real Madrid player announced the development on his official Twitter page, saying he was excited to be a part of the team for the progress of his coaching career.
"I am delighted to have joined FC Nordsjaelland coaching staff as part of my development towards my full coaching licence. "I will also be assisting the players on and off the pitch as part of my role."
The Danish club also confirmed through a statement, saying: "He will join the staff in an assistant role and participate in the training alongside the players to help implement the drills and ideas in the best possible way.
"As well as contribute with new input to coaching group evaluations of the training session afterwards."
Legit.ng earlier reported that Celebrated author, Chimamanda Adichie, has revealed that she once had a mild crush on Ghanaian footballer, Michael Essien, for his looks and football skills.
According to Adichie, this happened after the Black Stars of Ghana beat the United States at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
