- Lautaro Martinez has been been branded as a spectacular player by Lionel Messi
- The Barcelona captain wants his fellow compatriot to join him at the Camp Nou
- Inter Millan chief Javier Zanetti has disclosed that there are no talks between the club and Barcelona
Lautaro Martinez is the preferred player Lionel Messi hopes Barcelona could bring in to replace Luis Suarez who has been told to leave the Catalan club, but Inter say there are no discussions going on.
Messi has just accepted to see-off his contract which lapses next summer at the Spanish club, but he won’t commit another long term future with the Blaugrana if fresh players are not signed.
And Barcelona need more investment in future stars if they have any hope of retaining their captain who wants the club to sign fellow Argentine Martinez.
Messi earlier described the 23-year-old as “spectacular” and believes he is a worthy successor for his friend and team-mate Suarez.
In a recent chat with Libero on TyC Sports, Javier Zanetti, the Inter Milan vice president, stated that there no ongoing negotiations whatsoever with Barcelona over Martinez.
"In his case, being just a young player with such potential, it's normal for other teams to look at him," Zanetti said. "But what I see each day is a Lautaro who wants to stay in Italy."
"At the moment, there are no negotiations between Inter and Barcelona.
"We're happy with him and I know he's happy here too.
"He knows that he's at a great club and that he's improving a lot thanks to the coach [Antonio Conte]."
Meanwhile earlier reports by Italian news media outlet Corriere dello Sport cited by Legit.ng claim Lautaro Martinez does not want to join Barcelona because of how Lionel Messi is being treated and could sign a new deal with Inter Milan.
Martinez had a £100million release clause in his Inter Milan contract which expired over the summer and has been on the wishlists of top European clubs.
And with Antonio Conte staying at the San Siro for another season, the Itlian gaffer will be looking to tie the striker down wth a new deal.
He scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Inter last season and they finished runners up to Juventus in Serie A and lost in the Europa League final to Sevilla in Cologne.
