On Saturday, September 19, the people of Edo state will troop out to elect the candidates of their choice who will govern the state for another four years.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 14 candidates from 14 political parties will be participating in the election.
Legit.ng in this piece highlights top five candidates among the 14 who are interested in taking over the Edo state government house.
1. Godwin Obaseki/PDP
Governor Godwin Obaseki is the incumbent governor of Edo state. He was elected as the state governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016. However, his bid for re-election has seen him cross over to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the APC screening committee disqualified him from its primaries.
His running mate is Philip Sahibu who is also the current deputy governor of the Edo state.
He is seeking re-election on the platform of the PDP in the September governorship election.
2. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu/APC
Osagie Ize-Iyamu combines his political interest with pastoral work.
Ize-Iyamu had in 2016 contested on the platform of the PDP against Obasek who was then the candidate of the APC.
However, in a dramatic circumstance, Ize-Iyamu defected to the APC in 2019 and subsequently emerged the party's candidate.
His running mate is Abudu Ganiyu Audu.
3. Mabel Akomu Oboh/ADC
Mabel Akomu Oboh is Mabel Akomu Oboh, a journalist with a focus on entertainment. She is the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). She is one of the two female governorship candidates in the Edo governorship election. Her running mate is Reuben Agharese Edokpayi.
4. Iboi Lucky Emmanuel/ADP
Emmanuel Iboi is the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the forthcoming election.
According to Premium Times, the 36-year-old is a Computer Science graduate of the University of Benin. His running mate is Desmond Kola Imasuen.
5. Osifo UhunEkpenma Isaiah/LP
Osifo UhunEkpenma Isaiah is the candidate of the Labour Party. This is his first time as a governorship candidate of any political party, according to Daily Trust.
He is a lecturer in Igbinedion University, Okada. His running mate is Omogbelehan Edomoina Pauline.
Meanwhile, with the stakes rising ahead of the Edo gubernatorial election, verbal attacks and counter-attacks have been unleashed by political rivals especially from the PDP and the APC in the state.
Added to this, prophecies and predictions have been made as to who will eventually emerge the winner of the much-talked-about poll.
Among those who have given their prophetic declarations is the founder of the Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos, Primate Ayodele.
