- Samuel Eto’o played at Barcelona for five seasons scoring 130 goals between 2004 and 2009
- The retired Cameroonian footballer has urged the Catalan giants to sign more players
- Eto’o says the addition of fresh legs into the squad will help lessen the burden on Lionel Messi
Samuel Eto’o has urged his former club Barcelona to bolster the squad ahead of the next season saying the need to be less dependent on Argentine legend Lionel Messi.
The Cameroonian legend wants to see fresh legs who can blend with the club’s philosophy join the Blaugrana to relieve Messi of some burden.
Eto'o also raised eyebrows by claiming Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard is "on the same level" as Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
Messi attempted to leave the club in August having tendered his transfer request, but he could not - as there are technicalities in his existing contract over his exit clause.

Now with the legend committed to the club as he agreed to see-off his contract which expires at the end of the coming season, Eto’o believes Barcelona need more players now.
“I am happy because my son Messi has stayed at his house, but at Barca, we need other players with Blaugrana DNA. Messi alone is not enough,” Eto’o said at a La Liga event as reported by TuttoMercato as cited in GOAL.
“You need to look for players on the market with tiki-taka style and not box to box.”
The 2020-21 La Liga season kicks off on Friday but Barcelona, under the watch of new boss Ronald Koeman, will tackle Villarreal on September 27.
Eto’o wants to see the Blaugrana win the title this time having lost it last season to Real Madrid by five points.
Meanwhile, Messi joined his Barcelona team-mates in training on Monday, September 7, for the first time since his whole transfer saga which lasted more than three weeks.
The 33-year-old had last month tendered his transfer request at the club as he hoped to leave, amid reports that he already agreed personal terms with Premier League club Manchester City.
The Argentine was seen driving into the Camp Nou training ground earlier and later trained alone - as it would be for a few days as mandated by coronavirus protocols after he failed to undergo tests last week.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Samuel Umtiti could be the next player to have his contract terminated at Barcelona with latest reports saying the Catalans are ready to let the player go for free, SunSport reports.
Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to swoop on the centre-back who has another two years left on his deal with the Spanish club.
The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou with Clement Lenglet the preferred for the position.
