- Some Ondo lawmakers have raised an alarm over an alleged plot to kill them
- The affected members of the Ondo state House of Assembly were suspended for misconduct
- According to deputy speaker, members from the NURTW came to kill the lawmakers on the order of the governor and speaker
A report by The Nation indicates that some members of the Ondo state House of Assembly have raised an alarm over the alleged plot to kill them.
It was gathered that the Ondo lawmakers were suspended for misconduct but an Akure high court reversed their suspension and ordered the Assembly to pay the three affected House members N15m.
Hon Iroju Ogundeji, the deputy speaker who was among those suspended, said they were currently helpless as suspected thugs who invaded the Assembly were sent to kill them on the order of the governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun.
He said: “Idajo and his members from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW came to the house to kill us on the order of the governor and the speaker. They said we should not enter the house to perform our constitutional legislative duties.
“Right now, we are helpless because they are using government power against us. We are only relying on God to come to our aide.”
However, Oleyelogun explained that the suspected thugs were members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who were at the Assembly for a meeting.
This development is coming after some thugs reportedly invaded the Ondo state House of Assembly, aiming to attack lawmakers just weeks to the much-awaited gubernatorial election.
The hoodlums barricaded the entrance into the complex in order to prevent the entry of lawmakers who are said to be loyal to the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.
Numbering about 100, the thugs were seen on Monday, September 7, at the gate of the building with their vehicles parked outside.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the move by the Ondo House of Assembly to suspend one of its lawmakers, Success Torhukerhijo, was halted by a high court in the state on Tuesday, August 11.
The order of the court barring the suspension of Torhukerhijo who represents Ese-Odo constituency by the speaker of the House was read by Justice Ademola Bola.
The ex-parte order granted by the court stopped the House, the speaker and all parties named in the suit from suspending Torhukerhijo.
This means that the lawmaker is henceforth allowed to continue with his constitutional obligations until the determination of the motion on notice.
