Manchester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte are the latest football stars to test positive for deadly coronavirus.

The Citizens confirmed the latest development, adding that they are not showing symptoms and will self-isolate for a period of time.

What this means is that they are most likely to miss the Citizens opening Premier League fixture later this month.

City posted the statement on their official website, saying: "Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with the Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine." Neither are displaying symptoms of the virus.

The 31-year-old was said to have been tested for the infection while on summer holiday and would be in isolation for the next two weeks.

Costa spent his summer holiday and that was probably where he contracted the virus. His colleague Santiago Arias also tested positive for COVID-19 and they might not be fit for Atletico's curtain-raiser against Granada on September 27.
