A fresh leadership crisis is hitting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo as Daniel Nwafor, factional chairman of the ruling party in the state, has been suspended.
Nwafor, who is the chairman of APC in Imo recognised by the former governor of the state Rochas Okorocha, was handed marching orders over alleged gross indiscipline and insubordination.
In a statement released to newsmen on Sunday, September 6, in Owerri, Marcellinus Nlemigbo, who is another chairman, said Nwafor was suspended for failing to appear before the party's disciplinary committee.
The party also said it has recommended the complete expulsion of Nwafor to the highest hierarchy of the party having "violated article 21 A (ii) (ii) (iii) (iv) (vi) (vii) (x) of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress.”
“Following the disciplinary committee set up by the state caretaker committee of the party and your refusal to honour repeated invitations to appear before the committee to answer to allegations on gross indiscipline and insubordination.
Consequently, Nwafor is hereby suspended from the party forthwith and recommended for expulsion from the party and by the appropriate authorities under the constitution," part of the statement read.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that internal unrest in the ruling party hit a sharp bend as the Rivers state chapter of the ruling party suspended its acting chairman Igo Aguma.
Aguma was suspended on Monday, June 22, over disobedience to the spirit and letters of the high court judgement that appointed him as the chairman amid internal leadership crisis which left the ruling party in shambles from national headquarters.
Sokonte Davies, another party member, has been appointed to take over in acting caretaker capacity in Rivers.
In a related development, Terkimbi Ikyange, former Benue state House of Assembly speaker, is reportedly set for a sensational return to the ruling party.
Comrade Abba Yaro, APC chairman in the state, made this disclosure and further added that the party will welcome both new and former members in time soon.
