The All Progressive Congress (APC) has finally explained why the ruling party's former national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and his executives were removed from their leadership positions.
According to the party, the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) was removed from office to end internal crisis among members and pave the way for peace-building.
The Nation reports on Sunday, September 6 that the party's revelation was contained in a countersuit the APC filed against one Kalu Agu, who challenged the Oshiomhole team's removal in Abia state.
In the counter affidavit filed by APC's lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the party accused Agu of trying to destabilise its ongoing reconciliation efforts.
The creation of the Yobe governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee has put an end to the in-fighting among party members, the APC told the court in its document.
The party's lawyer prayed that the court to throw out Agu's suit which wanted accelerated hearing for the case.
On his part, Agu prayed the court to return the Oshiomhole team to office because they had barely spent two years out of their four-year tenure when they were sacked by the party's National Executive Council.
He said the court should declare the dissolution of the NWC as unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.
He also wants the court to declare that the recognition accorded the caretaker committee is unconstitutional and illegal.
Agu seems to be alone in his desire to have the Oshiomhole team return because the immediate past national chairman said he has accepted the sacking of his NWC in good fate.
On Saturday, June 27 Oshiomhole said he was all right with the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led NEC that dissolved his team.
The former Edo state governor made his position on the sacking of the NWC known in a chat with pressmen on Saturday in Abuja.
