President Muhammadu Buhari has officially presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the party's candidate for the Ondo governorship election.
The president presented the flag to the incumbent Ondo state governor on Friday, September 4, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Akeredolu was led to the presented by the chairman of the APC Ondo state campaign council and governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwoolu.
Also present at the occasion were the governors of Yobe, Kebbi, Plateau and Osun states.
Akeredolu is seeking re-election under the ruling party after presiding over the south-west state for almost four years.
The governor had since won the party's primary election and even gone a step further to reconcile with some of the aspirants within the party who were initially aggrieved over his emergence as the APC candidate.
Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is expected to face stiff competition from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
While a former attorney-general of Ondo state, Eyitaya Jegede is the candidate of the PDP, current deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi is the candidate of the ZLP.
The ZLP is a political party founded by the former governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko before the 2019 general elections.
Legit.ng had earlier reported that ahead of the October 10 governorship election in the state, former governorship aspirant, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, has handed over his political structures across the 18 local governments to Governor Akeredolu.
Oke, a former national legal adviser of the PDP, was before now, the anointed candidate of the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
He, however, dropped his ambition and grievances after he was approached by the governor for a truce which culminated in the symbolic handover of political structures to Akeredolu.
Meanwhile, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's vice president, would lead governors and other leaders of the APC to flag off the re-election campaign of Governor Akeredolu.
