Crisis is rocking the Bayelsa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) barely two months to the state senatorial by-elections, The Nation reports.
Some aggrieved party leaders from Bayelsa Central and Bayelsa West senatorial districts forwarded a petition through their lawyer, Rueben Egwaba and Co, against the conduct of Timipre Sylva, the state’s leader, to the chairman, caretaker committee.
The leaders including Godwin Sidi, Hon Dressman, Frank Oputu, Peter Ozobo, Ebide Brown, and Moses Hitler accused Sylva and his supporters of plotting to impose candidates on the party without consulting leaders and stakeholders from the affected areas.
The angry APC members in the letter called on the caretaker committee chairman to stop Sylva and others from imposing candidates to avert an impending disaster against the party.
It was gathered that the party leaders alleged that Sylva was working to impose candidates who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and have not even spent the requisite number of days to qualify them for the elective positions.
They warned that the tendency to impose candidates when the party’s aborted victory in the governorship election was already insight would be counter-productive.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the nomination of candidates for the National Assembly by-election in Bayelsa state has torn the PDP apart in the oil-rich state.
Some aggrieved supporters of the party on Thursday, August 27, protested the alleged indiscriminate disqualification of the former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Monday Obolo, and two others from the National Assembly by-election race.
Others disqualified were the former secretary to Bayelsa state government, Gideon Ekowe, and former director-general of the Bayelsa state geographical Integrated Service, (BGIS), Igo Assembly Goin.
The PDP screening committee reportedly disqualified the three senatorial aspirants for the aspiration of the immediate past state chairman of the PDP, Cleopas Moses.
