Despite the way the world has been hard hit with Covid-19 pandemic, technology keeps making up for human limitations.
According to The Star, a 5G-covered road for testing self-driving cars was formally unveiled in Baohe district of Hefei city in east China’s Anhui province on Thursday, September 3.
It should be noted that the 4.4 km long road will be available to both self-driving and ordinary vehicles. The road’s construction started in August 2019.
It has now achieved a 5G network coverage, and installation of road conditions monitoring devices and cloud platforms have been completed.
According to the construction unit, autonomous vehicles could now actualize intelligent driving on the road as the new 5G technology has greatly improved the safety of driving conditions.
Local Chinese media, Xinhua, also gathered that more than a dozen cities in the country including Beijing and Shanghai have been approved to conduct road tests for self-driving vehicles.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that a German automobile company, Sono Motors, built a solar-paneled car that self-charges itself. It also uses electricity.
The new car is entirely covered in solar panels plus its roof as a way to get a good battery life while it runs. That way, when it moves, it gets solar energy.
Called Sion, the same media source said that it is the “first mass-produce car to feature solar integration for public use".

A quoted press release explained how the car functions: “The solar cells meld seamlessly into the vehicle’s surface and can generate up to 34 kilometers of additional range a day at peak performance.”
It can run for more, even after up to 250 kilometers of initial charge as confirmed by the information on the company’s website.
The car’s prototype was designed in Munich in 2017 and since then has been greatly improved on in terms of interior design, ride-sharing compatibility, and general body overhaul.
Though the car is billed to hit the market in 2022, it may not be useful yet for very long commutes.
