Ahead of the October 10 governorship election in Ondo state, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship aspirant, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, has handed over his political structures across the 18 local governments to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
Oke the former national legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was before now, the anointed candidate of the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Oke said the re-election of Governor Akeredolu is important for the future of Ondo South Senatorial District.
According to him, the people of Ondo South would vote for the re-election of Akeredolu, adding that his decision to support the governor was informed by his developmental strides in the southern senatorial district.
His words: “We have agreed that Aketi will do second term. After him, it will come to the south. We will look for a renowned son like Agagu to be our governor. But for the October 10 poll, Akeredolu is our candidate and we will vote for him overwhelmingly.”
On his part, Governor Akeredolu said it is important for members of the party to come together to work for the party, noting that the APC is now a united big family.
Legit.ng had previously reported that political parties in the state raised an alarm over the alleged plot by the APC to cause trouble before and during the poll.
The parties under the platform of Coalition of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), noted that the need for security operatives to be at alert is following the recent outburst of a former chairman of the APC that his supporters will engage in violence during the election.
Rotimi Boboye, the state chairman of CNPP, who spoke at a press conference in Akure, noted that the ruling party's recent actions showed that APC has concluded plans to cause violence during the gubernatorial poll.
Meanwhile, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's vice president, would lead governors and other leaders of the APC to flag off the re-election campaign of Governor Akeredolu.
The rally would come up on Saturday, September 5 in the Akure township stadium by 11 am according to a statement signed by the spokesperson, Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa campaign organisation, Olabode Olatunde, and made available to journalists on Wednesday, September 2.
