Governor Godwin Obaseki has been honoured as the Most Outstanding Governor of The Year 2019 by the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists, Edo state chapter.
Presenting the award to the governor during his reelection campaign in Eyaen Wards 5 and 6, in Uhunmwode local government area, secretary-general of the association, Dr Charles Okhai, noted that the honour was on the back of the governor’s sterling performance across all sectors of the state.
Okhai said: “We believe that the governor has given power back to the people and we are here to support the good things going on in Edo state because we are committed to the progress of Nigeria.”
Similarly, the Cattle Dealers Association in Edo state also declared their total support for the reelection of the governor.
The cattle dealers through their chairman, Alhaji Saadu Ahmed, said: “Since we have been doing business here in Edo, the governor has not hurt anybody. We go about our businesses peacefully, that is why we are going to support our governor.”
Meanwhile, the Lead Pastor at Hill City, Reverend Olu Martins has maintained that he remains an unrepentant supporter of Governor Obaseki.
Martins who is also the executive director, Canvassers for Democracy and Rule of Law, was reacting to rumours that he has jumped ship to support the candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, ahead of the September 19 governorship election in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Benin city on Wednesday, August 26, Martins said he needed to denounce the rumour making the rounds before it wears the toga of truth.
Similarly, the reelection bid of Obaseki, on Thursday, August 27 got a major boost as over 1,000 health and environmental volunteers from the 18 local government areas of Edo state declared their support for the second term bid of the governor.
The volunteers under the aegis of Young Environmental Health Officers Forum also promised to mobilise over 5, 000 other voters across the state to ensure victory for Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Phillip Shaibu.
Speaking to journalists in Benin city, coordinator of the forum, who represented the other volunteers, Joy Oluwagbohunmi, noted that “the decision to back the governor was on account of the government’s sterling performance in the first term.”
