Speaking during the meeting, the revered traditional ruler expressed his displeasure over the attitude of some politicians.

According to the monarch, he is unhappy that the state has been in the news for the wrong reasons.

He admonished the political actors to avoid heating up the polity, adding that they must put the interest of the state first.

While appealing to the political actors to sheathe their swords, the king asked them to avoid violence.

He thereafter demanded an assurance from the politicians that there will be peace before, during and after the elections.

The Oba explained that the move is necessary to ensure that Edo State will not become a laughingstock.

After the meeting, the political leaders took turns to assure the traditional ruler that peace will reign in the state.

The meeting was held a day after the Edo state chapter of the PDP accused the APC of disrespecting the Benin Royal Family through a recent publication.

The party's spokesman in Edo state, Chris Nehikhare, who spoke on behalf of the PDP campaign council in Benin city on Tuesday, September 1, alleged that the APC has been casting aspersions on the Royal family through a group known as Bini Renaissance group.

He said the APC crossed the line in its desperation to drag highly respected persons and institutions in society in the mud "over the downward spiralling of its public rating, few weeks to the September 19 gubernatorial election.”

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the PDP received more defectors in its fold during the ward-to-ward election campaign for Governor Obaseki in Uhunmwode local government area on Monday, August 31.

Among those who defected to the PDP is the chairman of Edo Advanced Allied Party (AAP) Gabriel Erhahon, and the APC chairman in Ehor ward, Solomon Orumwense, among other ward chairmen.
