- Chelsea are on the brink of landing their sixth signing of the season
- The Blues are reportedly close to signing Edouard Mendy from Rennes
- The Ligue 1 side are already in the market for PSG's shot-stopper Areola
Chelsea are edging closer to signing Kepa Arrizabalaga's replacement Edouard Mendy from Rennes after the Ligue 1 side made contact with Alphonse Areola.
The Senegalese shot-stopper is expected to fight for his place with the Spanish goalkeeper in Frank Lampard's squad.
French news media outlet L'Equipe, PSG goalie Areola who returned from his loan spell with Real Madrid and Rennes are already targeting the French goalkeeper.
Mendy's move to Stamford Bridge is now looking likely after the likes of Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen have been linked with the Blues.
On the other hand, Kepa has changed his mind about leaving the west London club claiming he would fight for his place next season.
But Mendy who has been in consistent form for Rennes has been selected for Chelsea's Premier League ambition next season.
The 25-year-old helped Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history, after finishing third last season.
Mendy kept 13 clean sheets, and conceded just 31 goals in 33 appearances for the modest club last campaign.
It is understood Chelsea have tabled an opening bid of £15m turned down by Rennes - with an improved offer due to be returned.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reporte that Kai Havertz's summer move to Chelsea is inching closer after the midfielder reportedly completing his medical.
Havertz has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge all summer as Frank Lampard seeks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
Recently, Bayer Leverkusen boss appeared to confirm the midfielder's move to the Premier League is all but done after he announced the German will not return to the club.
Legit.ng also reported that Frank Lampard has been warned he risks being axed as Chelsea manager if the club fails to challenge for titles next season after the club's summer spending spree.
The Blues have thus far spent a staggering £131 million on four major signings including Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell.
The addition of veteran defender Thiago Silva is also expected to bolster Chelsea's defence following the west London side's dreadful defensive record last summer.
