With Edo state gubernatorial election drawing closer, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over what it termed as an unjust arrest of its member by suspected security officials on the order of Governor Godwin Obaseki
The ruling party gave the name of the arrested member as Abdul Ganiyu, adding that he was also assaulted over allegations levelled against him by some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement by its campaign media spokesperson, John Mayaki, APC stated that Ganiyu, an engineer from Etsako East local government area, was brutally treated by security officials who acted based on the false information from the accusers.

Mayaki berated the PDP for playing bad antics that made members of the opposition preys for the security operatives.
“Ganiyu and members of his family were going home when they were stopped and assaulted by security officials, who were acting on a false tip-off from Governor Godwin Obaseki and members of the PDP.
“The PDP members, working in cahoots with Shaibu, had characteristically fomented trouble at Okpella, but kept up with their usual antics of blaming the violence on others, with a swift SOS to the police, demanding the arrest of Ganiyu," he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that APC described as an "assassination attempt" the fatal accident that claimed lives of two policemen during the party's campaign on Tuesday, September 1, in Oluku Ovia Northeast local government area.
Recall that in what forced Edo APC to suspend its campaign, a trailer ran into the travelling campaign entourage of top chieftains of the party, including the party's former national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, before Oluku junction in Benin city.
Mayaki said the convoy of Oshiomhole was moving at a legal speed limit when the trailer ran into the former APC chairman's entourage, adding that the car crash was a failed assassination attempt.
