The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has been thrown into mourning following the demise of the director of finance and account Moses Okpo.

Ani Ekong, a media spokesperson to Senator Godwin Akpabio who is the Niger Delta affairs minister, confirmed Okpo's death.

He further stated that the finance director died on Saturday, August 29, leaving behind a wife and children. He was a native of Abia state born in 1961.

Legit.ng gathers that the director of finance and account has been sick for months before his eventual death.

Ekong further dismissed the insinuation that the Okpo's death is as a result of Covid-19 complication, adding that he has been buried since August.

"There’s been misinformation going on. People think that he was the director that died in NDDC some months ago of COVID-19 and buried last week.

“But this man that died is the Director of Finance and Account in the ministry in Abuja and I learnt he’s been very sick for a long time of over a year before he passed on,” Ekong noted.

The spokesperson also added that Akpabio on Monday, August 31, paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Muhammadu Buhari extolled the memories of his late friend, Malam Isa Funtua, by describing the late journalist and business icon's death as a monumental loss to his government.

In a letter written in Hausa and addressed to the deceased's family, the president expressed his sadness over the death of Funtua who he described as a loss not only to his family but also to the entire country.

It would be recalled that Malam Funtua, always regarded as a man of many colours due to his stints in many sectors, died of suspected cardiac arrest on Monday, July 20.
