Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state and his wife, Martha, were honoured on Sunday, August 30, when the Global Mission Plaza, Ibadan, Oyo state built by Bishop Francis Wale Oke was named after them.

The event marked the commencement of the 38th Holy Ghost Convention of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries and the 38th anniversary of entering into full-time ministry of the presiding bishop.

Governor Emmanuel, who performed the inauguration of the centre, commended Bishop Oke for his mentorship role in the country and beyond, adding that he was a beneficiary of the clergy’s teachings.

“I thank God for a day like this. Our father, Bishop Wale Oke, has imparted in me so much, especially in this political terrain,” the governor said.

“I want to join my faith with others to say that there will be an increase that is beyond his expectation,” he added.

The ceremony was witnessed by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Ola Makinde, prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, among other dignitaries.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who performed the dedication, prayed for the success of Emmanuel’s administration in Akwa Ibom state.

Political analysts say Governor Emmanuel has continued to distinguish himself in Nigeria's political terrain.

Two months ago, the director-general of the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, adjudged the Emergency Operating Center in Akwa Ibom state as the best in the country.

Dr Ihekweazu and officials of World Health Organisation, who were in the state on a working tour of health facilities, commended the Akwa Ibom state government for its investment in healthcare and building institutional capacity to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
