Mayaki condoled with the families of the victims on behalf of Pastor Ize-Iyamu and the APC, saying ‘‘we share in their grief.’’

He promised that the campaign council would do everything within its powers to ameliorate their grief.

He also assured families of the policemen involved in the fatal crash that Edo state would never forget their ‘‘supreme sacrifice.’’

Mayaki asked the party supporters to pray for the repose of the souls of the victims and that such tragedies should not occur again.

Meanwhile, the Edo state chapter of the APC has called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute Mr Kabiru Adjoto and Osaigbovo Iyoha, both of whom are senior aides of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, August 25, Colonel David Imuse, the Edo APC chairman, said the duo should be arrested over their alleged involvement in the hiring of armed thugs in the invasion of the Edo Assembly complex last month.

Imuse charged the police to commence an immediate investigation of the involvement of the identified aides of the governor, stressing that they have no constitutional immunity and are thus liable to arrest and prosecution.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the APC accused the PDP and Governor Obaseki of engaging the services of a former senior staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi to rig the Edo governorship election.

The APC said the plot by the PDP was as a result of the failure of the party and Obaseki to convince the people as to why they should vote for them.

The party said in a statement that Osaze-Uzzi is a first cousin of Obaseki and that he has been engaged as a private consultant in a plot to trade-sensitive inside information on the results collation process of the electoral body with the PDP in exchange for unnamed benefits.
