Talk Sport reports that the defender turned down offers from Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United to join the North Londoners.

He started his career in Brazil but moved to Europe after just one year and joined Lille in 2017, but was sent on loan to Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb before coming back to establish himself at the club in 2018.

Mikel Arteta said: “We welcome Gabriel to Arsenal. He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team.

"He has proved with Lille that he is a defender with many outstanding attributes and we are looking forward to watching him grow as an Arsenal player.”
