- Van de Beek's father hailed the transfer as "a dream come true" for the Ajax star
- The midfielder played a pivotal part in Ajax's scintillating UCL campaign in 2019
- The 23-year-old scored 10 goals for the Dutch side last season
Van de Beek is inching closer to joining Premier League club Manchester United having completed his medical in Netherlands.
The £40million transfer will see the Dutchman become United's first major summer signing.
According to SunSport, the midfielder underwent tests in Netherlands, with his dad Andre hailing the imminent transfer as a "dream" move.
"This is a dream come true. It’s the perfect moment for him to make this step to such a beautiful club," Andre was quoted saying.
"Many clubs were interested, but Donny decides himself," he added.
Van de Beek was not part of Ajax's team that took part in the club's pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt, further fuelling speculation he is set for the exits.
The 23-year-old previously informed his teammates he wanted to join United, with the Premier League side beating Tottenham Hotspur to his signing.
Real Madrid are the other side said to have submitted a bid to sign the Dutch international but the deal fell through.
The midfielder was a shining light for Ajax during the 2018/19 season as the club reached the Champions League semis.
A box-to-box player, Van de Beek netted 10 goals for his side last season and will now be hoping to continue his fine form with Man United.
He will link up with in-form Bruno Mars and Paul Pogba in the midfield as the Red Devils seek to challenge for titles during the 2020/21.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly agreed to terms to join Barcelona this summer.
The Dutchman has been linked with the Catalans since the arrival of his national team coach at Camp Nou last month.
Ronald Koeman was hired as a replacement for Quique Setién following the Blaugrana's 8-2 humiliation in their Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich.
However, the 57-year-old tactician is hoping he can lure Wijnaldum to Barca having entered the final year of his deal with the Reds.
