Mike Igini, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has threatened to file a defamation suit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) media campaign chairman in Edo state, John Mayaki.
Igini, who serves as the Akwa-Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) issued the threat after Mayaki reportedly accused him (Igini) of meddling in the Edo governorship election to favour of another political party.
The INEC official demanded N1 billion damages from Mayaki and an apology to be broadcast in the media over the allegation
Igini through his counsel, Clement Onwuenwunor said he will proceed with the legal action if his demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the national president Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima, has warned political actors in the state not to undermine the poll.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 31, and made available to Legit.ng, Shettima, who was reacting to the allegation levelled against tMike Igini over the election said Nigeria's democracy should not be assaulted.
Igini was accused to have been working with some political actors in Edo state with the intention of manipulating the forthcoming election.
In another report, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu is scheduled to meet with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
IGP Adamu will be having a high-profile meeting with members of civil society groups, top police officers and the media in Abuja on Monday, August 31, The Sun reported.
Among issues to be discussed are measures that will ensure smooth and violence-free gubernatorial elections in both states.
Still on politics, the deputy governorship candidate of the APC in the Edo governorship poll, Mallam Gani Audu has boasted that his party would shock members of the opposition political parties on September 19 with an overwhelming victory.
