The Nigerian Air Force has announced that it would deploy a new aircraft to Edos state to boost the fight against insurgency.
The chief of the air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar made the statement when he inspected some facilities in Benin City, the Edo state capital on Friday, August 28, NAN reported.
He said the aircraft deployment will also help secure the maritime environment of the country.
“The special mission aircraft will add value to the security arrangement of Nigeria’s maritime environment and I believe this unit will play a crucial role in ensuring that the maritime environment is secure,” Abubakar said.
He said more air force personnel including pilots, technicians and engineering officers will be posted to Benin as well as the air force special forces.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has issued a warning to politicians and their supporters in both states.

The electoral commission gave the warning on Thursday, August 20, at a one-day sensitisation forum for journalists in Benin, The VOA reported.
Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) disclosed that there would be security personnel at each voting centre to ensure strict implementation of the directive.
