New Barcelona boss, Ronald Koeman, is reportedly plotting to grab Georginio Wijnaldum away from Liverpool as he begins his two-year reign at the La Liga club.

The Dutchman was presented to the media earlier this week - taking over from former boss Quique Setién.

Having managed Wijnaldum at the national team level, Koeman is hoping to reunite with the midfielder at the Camp Nou.

The 29-year-old played a key role in the Reds' Champions League triumph and Premier League triumphs in the last two seasons.

However, his future at Anfield remains uncertain with his contract set to expire next summer as reported by 90 Min.

The publication reveals that the Dutchman is the only player in Jürgen Klopp's starting XI yet to be handed an extension by the Merseyside outfit.

Meanwhile, Koeman is said to have persuaded Wijnaldum to hold off on signing a new deal with Liverpool in a bid to bring him to Camp Nou.

Reports claim the former Everton boss could be overhauling his squad after the club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said most of the players would be sold this summer.

Wijnaldum is considered as a good fit – and will not conflict with new arrival from Juventus, Miralem Pjanic.

According to Sky Sports Wijnaldum has not entered into new contract talks with the Premier League champions, though, an agreement is said to be close.

The midfielder joined Liverpool four years ago in a deal valued around £25 million, making him one of Klopp’s earliest signings at Anfield.
