Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala who currently plays for Barcelona's female team has explained that her parents never wanted her to play football while growing up in Lagos.

Oshoala is among the best female strikers in the world considering what she has achieved since she started her football career on the streets of Ikorodu in Lagos.

Today, the 25-year-old Super Falcons' star has acquired so much money through football thanks to her superb goal-scoring skills on the pitch.

But the journey was not rosy for Oshoala due to the pressure she faced from her parents who only wanted her to focus on her studies.

While speaking with The Guardian, Oshoala explained that she was even banned by her parents not to go out of the house to play football.

“I feel like everything is happening according to time. It’s stage by stage with life, with everything.

“I know thousands of kids are still going through the same thing I went through when I was young.

“Parents will say they want their kids to go to school, they don’t want them in sport, especially girls,'' the former Rivers Angel striker explained.

Meanwhile, Oshoala and her Barcelona teammates are preparing to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Oshoala was named in the Spanish Primera Iberdola team of the season having ended the competition with a remarkable 20 goals.

The 25-year-old was instrumental as her goals helped the Barcelona Ladies clinch the 2019/2020 title for the first time in five years.

Oshoala won her maiden Spanish Primera Iberdrola title with Barcelona Femeni as the country's football body crowned the Catalan club champions following their inability to conclude the season due to the deadly coronavirus.

A statement released by the Royal Spanish Football Federation revealed that the body made attempts to wrap up the season, but their failure to meet the government's health guidelines compounded their problems.
