- Governor Godwin Obaseki has received the support of tricycle and motorcycle operators in Edo state
- The operators endorsed the governor's second term bid saying he has sanitised the transport sector
- They also praised the governor for his performance in office since 2016
Tricycle and motorcycle operators numbering over 700 in Edo state on Thursday, August 20, endorsed Governor Godwin Obaseki for a second term in office.
The operators who were from seven different transport unions in the state said they decided to back Obaseki, due to his sterling performance, especially key reforms in the transport sector.
A spokesman of the transporters, Mr Daniel Aiyegbeni, said the governor has done very well since he assumed office, especially with the abolition of multiple levies and dues which characterised the previous administration.

He said the drivers are now experiencing a new lease on life as they can now save for the future after working, against what was obtainable in the past when they worked for the pockets of thugs.
He noted: “If you check the mirrors on your tricycles, they are intact. Before now, you didn't have mirrors. We have seen the end of that era of oppression and would pray it never returns.
“We are restating our support for the government. This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
“We are here to say no to oppression, we are not going back to Egypt; forward ever, backward never. Together we are endorsing governor Obaseki for a second term in office.”
The supporters were received at the Government House, Benin city, by Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha and Hon. Crusoe Osagie, who said the drivers have made the right choice by supporting Obaseki, promising them that the governor will continue to work hard to ensure that Edo records accelerated progress.
Meanwhile, a former minister of foreign affairs and ex-All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Tom Ikimi, has declared his support for Governor Obaseki.
Ikimi, one of the founding fathers of the APC, declared his support for the governor when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a campaign in his domain - Igueben local government area on Wednesday, August 19.
Ikimi, 76, urged his people to re-elect Governor Obaseki and Comrade Philip Shaiubu in the September 19 gubernatorial election to enable them to consolidate on their achievements in the first term.
Legit.ng had earlier reported that the traditional ruler of Ewatto Kingdom, in Esan South East local government area of Edo state, His Royal Highness, Sylvanus Ikhumhen, reassured Governor Obaseki of the unalloyed support of the Esan people in the forthcoming election in the state.
The Onojie of Ewatto described the governor as the messiah that Edo people have been waiting for.
According to him, Governor Obaseki’s re-election will ensure continuity of his sterling performance and consolidation of good governance in the state.
