Most bandits, terrorists come from outside Nigeria, IGP Adamu says

- Most of the bandits in Nigeria are from the Islamic State of West Africa

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has revealed that most of the criminals who carry out havoc and inflict pain on citizens are actually foreigners.

Adamu made this crucial disclosure during a town-hall meeting held on Wednesday, August 19, at the headquarters of Zuru local government in Kebbi state.

The police boss said that based on reliable intelligence, bandits operating in the northern region are from the Islamic State of West Africa, The Cable reports.

Adamu said: “We have realised that most of the banditry has an international dimension. The bandits come from outside the country. We arrested Sudanese, Nigeriens and Malians, among other nationals.”

He added that because of the massive and impressive efforts of the military in the northeast, the bandits are now relocating to the northwestern region.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Katsina, Bello Masari, had revealed those who aide banditry that has been ravaging the state in recent times.

During his discussion with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Wednesday, August 19, Masari said that these criminals get information from persons in the state.

The governor said that this is why security agencies have found it very difficult to defeat the bandits who carry out their havoc in the state.

Added to this, the Katsina state government said that normalcy was returning to the state with farmers and others going about their usual duties.

The government attributed the feat to the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security forces operating in Katsina.

The special adviser to the Katsina governor on security matters, Ibrahim Katsina, in a statement released on Friday, August 7, said the activities of bandits have been degraded to the barest minimum by the army.
