Josep Bartomeu, who is the president of Spanish club Barcelona, has confirmed that the Catalans will not be going for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar this summer.
Barcelona failed to win any trophies at the just-concluded season in Spain and they were also bundled out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
The Catalans suffered heavy defeat against Bayern Munich and there has been calls for the club to bolster their squad ahead of the up-coming season.
However, that process has started at Nou Camp with the hiring of coach Ronald Koeman who replaces Quique Setién after his failure to make any difference at Barcelona.
One of the players linked with a move to Barcelona this summer is Neymar who is currently enjoying his football at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian left Barcelona three years ago for a big money move to Paris Saint-Germain, but he has been linked with a return to Spanish La Liga.
Barcelona president stated that the club made two bids to resign Neymar last year stressing that Paris Saint-Germain refused to sell.
''Going for a player when the club he is in doesn’t want to sell him is impossible.
''Last summer we tried. He is a player and with the pandemic situation, his club does not put him in the market.
''It is normal. The big clubs want great players,'' Barcelona president Bartomeu explained.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported how Neymar risked being banned after he broke Uefa’s coronavirus protocol as he was caught on camera swapping shirts with Marcel Halstenberg moments after Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 Champions League win over RB Leipzig.
He was in sparkling form during the match as he clearly stood out as the best on the night in a game played at the famous Benfica stadium in Portugal.
It is however not yet clear what charges the player will be facing as the protocol by Europe's football governing body does not clearly mention a period of isolation in cases of shirt-swapping.
PSG will face Bayern or Lyon in the Champions League final on Sunday, August 23, which is just five days away and the Brazilian star could be unavailable.
