Special adviser to Edo governor on media and communication strategy, Crusoe Osagie, has said declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will suffer defeat from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
According to Osagie, the APC has resorted to underhanded and diversionary tactics to win the election.
He said the candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and ex-APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole are behind the plot.
He, however, stated that the plans of the APC chieftains will not save them from defeat at the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
His words: “After weeks of lacklustre election campaigning in some local government areas of Edo state, with rented crowds, candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, are panic-stricken over the electoral failure that awaits them at the poll.
“They have resorted to the use of underhanded and diversionary tactics, one of which is the sponsorship of groups who are making astounding allegations, with the intent of portraying Governor Godwin Obaseki in a bad light.
“Their ultimate aim is to divert voters’ attention away from such issues as the credibility, integrity and capability of the gubernatorial candidates.”
The governor’s aide noted that “the baseless allegations are the creations of Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu, who are convinced that they will lose the September 19 gubernatorial election.”
“Edo voters know that Ize-Iyamu and his godfather are relying on violence, external forces and campaign of calumny, which will not save them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Edo deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, alleged that Oshiomhole is planning to cause mayhem and to disrupt the September 19 governorship in the state.
The deputy governor, who spoke to journalists in Benin city, the Edo state capital, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call Oshiomhole and his followers to order and stop them from setting Edo state on the path of chaos and anarchy.
According to Shaibu, “Oshiomhole and his allies, having discovered that they cannot win the election in a free and fair contest, have resorted to violence and thuggery to set the state ablaze and foist an unpopular candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on the people.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered commissioners of police across the country to immediately initiate appropriate actions to identify, isolate, disarm, arrest and prosecute any individual(s) or group(s) in possession of prohibited firearms.
A statement by police spokesman, Frank Mba, noted that the initiative is towards ensuring that the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states are violent-free.
