Months after November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state, the poll has continued to be a subject of litigations, just as predicted by a popular Nigerian clergyman, Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin.
In the buildup to the Bayelsa governorship election, Pastor Fufeyin predicted that the poll will end in court.
"The same way I revealed the secret on the postponement of the presidential election, it's the same way I'm telling you; they will end up in court," he told Legit.ng, referring to both Bayelsa and Kogi elections.
Nigeria's Christian clerics are closely involved in Nigeria's political and electoral process as many of them usually give prophecy regarding the outcomes of elections.
While some Nigerians believe the prophecies, others believe that they are just mere predictions based on political dynamics.
However, the fact remains that some key prophecies by these men of God have truly come to pass while some failed woefully.
In February 2020, the Bayelsa election took another turn as the then governor-elect, David Lyon, was sacked.
Lyon was sacked by the Supreme Court based on a pre-election matter, not the petition at the tribunal; his deputy was found guilty of presenting forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, was subsequently declared the winner of the elections.
However, months after Diri became the governor, the tribunal on Monday, August 17, nullified the election.
The election was nullified on the grounds that the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP), being one of the registered political parties, was unlawfully excluded from participating in the November 16, 2019 governorship election.
Meanwhile, the Kogi/Bayelsa prediction was not the first prophecy Pastor Fufeyin has given.
He had also predicted the postponement of the last presidential election which also came to pass.
"The same way I revealed the secret on the postponement of the presidential election, it's the same way I'm telling you; they will end up in court," the clergyman told Legit.ng in 2019.
Meanwhile, the legal tussle around the Bayelsa election as Governor Diri said he would appeal the tribunal ruling which nullified the election.
The governor said he has instructed his lawyers to file the necessary papers, adding that he has implicit confidence in the judiciary that he would triumph in the end.
